One Million Mentors, is a project within the charity UpRising Leadership, its mission is to transform the process of mentoring for all in the UK. Our ambition is to train, recruit and connect a million mentors to a million young people in order to increase youth employability, support social action and help break down social barriers.
The impetus for 1MM comes from the recognition that there is significant opportunity to widen the scope of mentoring, increase the provision of mentoring to areas across the UK and generally strengthen the mentoring network by connecting existing organisations through the shared online platform.
We are looking for experienced facilitators to run both our Mentor Workshops and our Communities of Practice across all our regions: Cardiff, Greater Manchester, London and West Midlands.
1. Facilitation of Mentor Workshops
Each Mentor Workshop is supported by a member of the 1MM team who is responsible for all the administration of the event. We aim to have 20 plus mentors at each workshop and, as we expand, may work with larger numbers. The workshops are usually held in the evenings, are informal in style and follow a standard design, which ensures consistency across our regions but, also, allows scope for some flexibility to respond to the needs of participants in the moment.
We aim to run one Mentor Workshop each month in all our regions.
2. Facilitation of Communities of Practice (CoP)
We need facilitators to run our Community of Practice sessions, which all mentors are invited to join. Facilitators will lead the sessions and support 1MM members with the administration of the sessions. The confidential sessions usually take place in the evening in a suitable central location and last for about 2 hours. The meeting design is informed by action learning set principles. The aims are for participants to share experience and to learn from each other in a format that ensures that everyone’s voice is heard. Each group will hold 3-4 facilitated meetings and will self-facilitate subsequent meetings. Virtual Community of Practice meetings are also offered using Zoom.
Each facilitator is required to collect brief feedback from the group about their experience and to share that with 1MM to help us improve our offer to mentors and mentees.
