Aston University has joined forces with the One Million Mentors initiative which aims to train, recruit and connect a million mentors to a million young people.
The partnership will enable the expansion of the current mentoring provision at the University by connecting students to mentors through an online network. Collaboration will boost employability, support social action and help break down social barriers.
Aston University has partnered with UpRising, a UK-wide youth leadership development organisation, to support One Million Mentors, an initiative to increase the provision of mentoring for young people across the UK and strengthen the mentoring network by connecting existing organisations through a shared online platform.
Aston has one of the largest mentoring communities in any university nationally, with approximately a quarter of the student population involved in some form of mentoring. The range of innovative mentoring schemes on offer at the University ensures that Aston students feel supported from pre- arrival stage, right the way through to final year and beyond.
By partnering with UpRising and its One Million Mentors initiative, the University will be able to offer and match even more students from a range of different subject disciplines to a professional mentor.
Alveena Malik, Co-founder and Director of One Million Mentors, said:
“Mentoring plays a critical part in broadening horizons, discovering opportunities and building networks to enable young people to fulfil their potential. We are delighted to be working with Aston University to help expand their already successful mentoring offering to reach out to more young people.”
The partnership will be coordinated by the Learner Enhancement Team, part of the Careers and Placements Department at Aston University.
Sara Rattu, Business Partnerships Coordinator at Aston University, said:
“We are happy to announce our partnership with UpRising to offer even more Aston students a professional mentor which helps them to develop both personally and professionally, and increase their employability.”
