One Million Mentors Update on COVID-19
Dear 1MM supporter,
In light of recent developments and the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, we wanted to update you on steps that 1MM is taking with regards our mentoring programmes. Our absolute number one priority is the safety of all the people who we work with.
With that in mind, on Monday 16 March, we made contact with our Youth Partners and mentors to let them know that we are taking the following steps:
Started induction/ mentoring?
If you have already started mentoring a young person, or attended an induction, the relationships may continue at the discretion of the youth partner, and if you are agreeable of course. Please liaise with your mentor coordinator – we can provide contact details if needed.
Allocated, but not started?
Under 18s: If you are committed to a particular opportunity for mentees under the age of 18 and that has no other ongoing mentoring activity, the scheme is being postponed as a precautionary measure, and you can expect to receive an email from the youth partner soon. We aim to provide at least 3 weeks notice of new start & scheduling dates for an opportunity you are allocated to.
Over 18s: If you are committed to a particular opportunity for mentees over the age of 18 and that is yet to start, the scheme could continue at the discretion of the youth partner, and if you are agreeable of course. Though not our typical model, early sessions might be held remotely (video/ telephone call).
In either scenario, please expect to hear from your mentor coordinator, or reach out to them directly for clarity – we can provide contact details if needed.
Not allocated a mentee yet?
We have several opportunities with 18yrs+ mentees in need of your support, and schools needing to know that there is sufficient interest for their younger under 18s so the scheme can go live again. Mentors will still be shared opportunities from youth partners who would like reassurance of your kind interest.
We will provisionally allocate you to schemes of preference, but your firm commitment would of course be dependent on when scheduling details can be shared.
We want to avoid bringing together so many of the community in a single space, all upcoming workshops are cancelled, effective immediately.
During the uncertain times ahead, there will be a focus on the readiness & pre-allocation of our amazing community of mentors. If your mentoring has started, or was due to start, the online training needs completing asap please! (We will reach out directly on this…)
This readiness is particularly important to a smoother journey for all involved, which is why we ask all who sign up to complete the online profile & training within 2 weeks. This makes allocation easier, so youth partners can be confident of sufficient mentors who are trained and ready to start the mentoring journey.
Thank you for your kind patience and support.
Best wishes and good health,
From everyone at One Million Mentors
