1MM’s Safeguarding Commitment
One Million Mentors (1MM) is committed to ensuring all necessary steps are taken to protect children and young people from harm and to create a culture of safety, equality and protection for children and young people who enter mentoring relationships through our partner organisations.
One Million Mentors will encourage and support partner organisations, including schools, colleges, universities, community groups and employer organisations to adopt and demonstrate their commitment to the principles and practice of equality as set out in this Safeguarding procedure and the policies below.
At One Million Mentors we are dedicated to protecting all children and young people participating in the 1MM programme and our safeguarding commitment to them is built on the following principles:
- That safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. We recognise our duty to safeguard children and young people, and we recognise that working in partnership with our Youth Partners, and mentors is essential to this.
- That children and young people’s safety and welfare is, and must always be, the paramount consideration.
- That all children and young people, regardless of their background, have the right to be protected from abuse, exploitation or harm.
- That all safeguarding concerns and allegations of abuse must be taken seriously, reported, and responded to appropriately.
